A million ePub files distributed

Just a few weeks after the firmware update for the PRS-505 and the release of the iPhone 3G, we reach our first million files distributed in ePub.

The release of Stanza on the iPhone & iPod Touch really helped the format, and we can expect a wider support for this format in the future on various devices.

It’s still early days for ePub though, and there’s still room for improvements. With the launch of the Sony Reader in the UK and Waterstone’s online store, major publisher are finally distributing books in ePub. To improve both the format and the compatible reading systems, the upcoming months will be crucial.

Congratulations, this is a fantastic feat!

Any possibility you could tell us what percentage of those one million downloads are from your eBook collection, and what percentage are from the Feeds?

  2. Hadrien says:

Mostly e-books, I’ll have to check the stats again, but it’s at least 90% e-books rather than RSS feeds.

RSS feeds are more popular with the Kindle and Mobipocket than in ePub.

  3. Mike Cook says:

This is really impressive Hadrien, particularly as the Feedbooks collection is actually not that large yet.

    Hadrien thank you so much!

I am french and I am extremely grateful that I can find so many books to read in french.
When I dowloaded the Stanza application from the Apple App store I was afraid I would have had to stick to english reads, but Feedbooks is like heaven for frenchies!
I am sure this is going to be a great success.
Please go on, I hope I will find more books in the future.
I love this application and I really love it reading books on my iphone, you have done a great job with Stanza. Extremely practical and useful. Adding a sample to the Stanza application was a genius idea.
